Herbalists Without Borders (HWB) treats seeds as a cornerstone of health, social justice, and ecological resilience. Our U.S. Seed Library and Grant Program elevates the conversation around medicinal and native plants, emphasizing the vital importance of biodiversity in adapting to a changing climate. We believe that integrating food and medicine into every garden—from urban plots to rural farms—is essential for community wellness and food sovereignty.
What We Do:
Medicinal & Cultural Preservation: We focus on “growing out” rare and culturally relevant medicinal herbs and plants that are often excluded from mainstream commercial catalogs.
Annual Seed Grants: We host annual grant cycles to supply seeds, helping communities across the U.S. establish food and medicinal gardens.
Disaster Response: HWB provides emergency seed distribution to communities recovering from natural disasters, facilitating immediate restoration and long-term resilience.
Education & Empowerment: We provide comprehensive technical support, including garden design assistance, eGuides, and a peer-to-peer forum to share knowledge and best practices.
Our Philosophy:
We operate on the principle of “food as medicine.” By providing the tools, technical resources, and seeds necessary for cultivation, we support community-level organizing and mutual aid. Our goal is to ensure that educators, community programs, and families have the agency to grow what they need, fostering a more resilient, biodiverse, and healthy future.
